Okay, so I’ve been diving into the world of AR glasses lately, and I wanted to share some initial thoughts on the Rokid Air. It’s been quite the experience, and there’s definitely a lot to unpack.

Rokid Air – First Impressions

Right off the bat, the form factor is intriguing. They don’t scream “futuristic cyborg” quite as loudly as some other AR headsets. They actually look relatively similar to regular glasses, which is a huge plus for everyday wear. I mean, let’s be honest, nobody wants to look like they’re starring in a sci-fi movie while they’re just trying to catch up on emails at the coffee shop. The weight is also surprisingly manageable; they don’t feel overly heavy on my nose, even after extended use. This is crucial because comfort is key if you’re planning on using these for anything beyond a quick demo.

The real magic, of course, happens when you plug them in. Setting up the Rokid Air is pretty straightforward. It connects via USB-C, which is becoming increasingly ubiquitous, so compatibility shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Once connected to a compatible device (I’ve been testing it with my phone and laptop), you essentially get a virtual display floating in front of your eyes. And this is where the “120-inch TV in your view” claim comes into play. It’s difficult to describe the feeling of having a screen that large appear seemingly out of thin air. It feels surprisingly immersive, and the image quality is decent, although not quite on par with a high-end TV. The resolution is good enough for comfortable viewing, and the brightness is adequate for indoor use, but it might struggle a bit in bright sunlight.

I’ve been experimenting with different use cases. Watching movies is definitely a highlight. It’s a unique experience to have such a large screen available wherever you are. I’ve also found it useful for productivity tasks. Being able to have multiple virtual monitors open without cluttering my physical desk is a huge advantage. Imagine coding or writing while simultaneously having documentation and reference materials displayed right in front of you. That said, the Rokid Air isn’t perfect. The field of view is somewhat limited, meaning the virtual screen doesn’t fill your entire vision. It’s more like looking at a large TV screen a few feet away. This can be a bit of a drawback for truly immersive experiences. Also, the reliance on external devices for processing power means the Rokid Air is essentially just a display. It doesn’t have any onboard computing capabilities, so you’re always tethered to a phone or laptop.

Overall, my initial impressions of the Rokid Air are positive. It’s a compelling piece of technology with a lot of potential. While there are definitely some limitations, the core experience of having a large virtual display readily available is quite impressive. As the technology continues to evolve, I’m excited to see where AR glasses like these will go.
